Lara has acted as lead designer and client liaison lead on a range of projects within the education and residential sectors. Recently her work has naturally gravitated towards the commercial sector.

As a passionate sustainable designer, Lara considers the life cycle and the long-term impact of the materials she specifies, reducing any negative impact on the environment. This is demonstrated in the refurbishment of the Marylebone Town Hall, Westminster Council wedding suites. Since the existing buildings are of Grade II listed status, there were strict limitations on what restoration works could be done, but where possible the thermal performance of the existing building envelope was improved, and a new build glazed link was built to minimise carbon emissions.

Lara designs for people, championing an inclusive approach to design. She has a broad knowledge of designing spaces that consider wellness and neurodiversity. She also understands how well thought out designs can benefit and enable a broader spectrum of people to work comfortably within the built environment. This is exemplified by her work in the recent design of the award-winning BBC Cymru Wales headquarters in Cardiff. This project has become an exemplar for future office design and was awarded ‘Fit out of Workplace’ BCO Regional Awards in 2019. She was integral in developing the BBC’s new home at MediaCityUK as a thriving urban neighbourhood, which was voted the ‘Test of Time’ BCO Award in 2016. The success of the BBC Headquarters in Wales grew from her enduring creative partnership with BBC.

Lara is crucial in cross-functional teams, with her leadership driving meetings from the design perspective. She acts as a diplomat between the design team and the client, championing human-centric approaches and design thinking. She is invested in the development of her teams, mentoring newer members, and enabling them to grow and develop their design skills further.
