Tony O'Brien RIBA Partner
Tony leads a wide range of commercial workplace and residential projects from the practice’s Manchester office as well as sitting on Sheppard Robson’s Design Review Group, responsible for the overall design direction of the practice.
His broad experience ranges from early conceptual schematics to the rigorous delivery of projects; and from largescale urban design to precise detailing. He has expertise in creating new neighbourhoods, as in Wellington Place, Leeds, which combine a vibrant mix of uses and new public spaces to expand and rejuvenate city centres. He also has a track record of breathing new life into existing buildings, leading the refurbishment and remodelling of the BCO award-winning Hanover House project as well as other historic and prominent buildings on the NOMA Estate, Manchester.
His experience across numerous typologies allows Tony to lead major mixed-use projects that stitch together a rich mix of uses. This can be seen at New Victoria, where major office and residential developments are woven together to create a prominent new destination in Manchester. He has also successfully designed and delivered major commercial science and technology buildings at the City Labs campus in this expanding new market.
Tony is an active member of the BCO and a former judge for the BCO Awards and is also a commentator on the future of workplaces and design standards generally.
