Practice Culture

Culture

The practice has grown and excelled by relying on its most important asset—its people. The culture of our organisation does not revolve around one voice; instead a tradition of nurturing the best and brightest, and giving them room to express themselves, has been the bedrock of the culture at Sheppard Robson.

We use the progressive principles of the practice’s heritage to inform and inspire the next generation of staff. A collegiate approach—that allows staff to work on a wide range of projects and learn from a wealth of experience—has a direct and positive impact on the designs we produce.

The practice is an evolving society where we aim to create a professional and social environment. The culture we promote fosters a spirit of creativity, where members of the team can deliver excellence and build long, successful careers.

To mark the 80th anniversary of the practice, our team across all of our offices collaborated to create a film that they felt summed up the practice – its heritage and its culture as well as the enduring characteristics of our creative output. Put succinctly in the film, Sheppard Robson is a place where “people are empowered and voices are heard.”
Thirty-six languages are spoken at the practice, and to celebrate this international community we made a short video for our last staff presentation. This asked members of the team for their thoughts on Sheppard Robson, with all answers in their first language.
“My intention for this was to help others” says Sheppard Robson architect, Lucas Arellano, who spent one year creating a video journal which captures the creative process behind working on a design competition. “If we can show how we work and show how we support each other it would be great”. The inspiring video, which was filmed over a period of 10 days, was created to give an insight into what a career in architecture looks like and to be a source of inspiration for those studying or interested in pursuing architecture. “I wanted to say thank you to Sheppard Robson, for allowing me to document my experience with no conditions.”. The full film will be released in the upcoming weeks.
