Practice Overview

Sheppard Robson is one of the UK’s most established architectural practices, with a reputation for thoughtful and responsible designs.

In the practice’s 80-year history, Sheppard Robson has designed award-winning architecture, interior design and masterplanning projects around the world, building a strong reputation across numerous typologies – including office, education, residential, healthcare, science and retail projects.

From our offices in London, Manchester and Glasgow, the founding principles of innovation and sustainability continue to shape the work of the practice and its interior design group (ID:SR), reinterpreted and enlivened by the creative talent of our designers.

The work of the practice benefits from an ability to have a constructive dialogue with clients and end-users, as well as collaborating closely with other members of the project team throughout the design and delivery of a project.

Sir Richard Sheppard (front centre) and Jean Shufflebottom (front right) founded the practice as husband and wife in 1938, with Geoffrey Robson becoming a named partner in the 1950s. From the outset, the practice looked to engage with the most pertinent societal issues of the time—a characteristic that remains the same to this day.

Nestled off the busy Parkway in Camden, the former piano factory has been home to Sheppard Robson for over 40 years. In 2018, the building was refurbished and extended by the practice, celebrating the industrial heritage of the building whilst ensuring the it remains an engaging place to work for our team of 250 people in London. Captured above is one of the numerous meeting rooms that face onto the intimate courtyard–a counterpoint to the bustling streets around–that forms the heart of the building.
