The Architects Journal features Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital

9th April 2017

The Architects Journal has reviewed the Sheppard Robson-designed Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Johannesburg. The extensive building study is written by Hannah le Roux, associate professor in the School of Architecture and Planning, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, who writes:

“…the hospital, of all the projects in Mandela’s name, will stand out as his most fitting tribute. Its broader vision to enact the rights of children and to pass on an exemplary legacy makes it a truly noble place. It illustrates in concrete terms how design can perform a healing role in the face of political damage.”

The building, designed with John Cooper Architects, GAPP Architects and Urban Designers and Ruben Reddy Architects, will be admitting its first patients later this year.
