Building magazine publishes Bristol Life Sciences cover story

Building Magazine’s Ike Ijeh visited Sheppard Robson-designed Life Sciences Building at the University of Bristol and has written a building study on the project, which features on the cover of this week’s magazine.

“The overall effect is astonishing. The building appears avowedly industrial… the perfect mechanical demonstration of the complex scientific activities that take place within,” writes Ike Ijeh.

David Ardill – partner at Sheppard Robson – described the two contrasting facades as “purposefully inconsistent.” The more conservative street facing façade boasts “elevations that rationalised the streetscape,” as opposed to the west facing façade, described by Ijeh as “a dramatic, industrial laboratory elevation that ripples like a giant metallic wave.”
