South Dalmarnock Integrated Urban Infrastructure Glasgow, UK
Sheppard Robson has been appointed by Clyde Gateway to act as lead consultant on the urban regeneration of the South Dalmarnock area of Glasgow. The project brief is to deliver a development masterplan for this area of Glasgow, which lies adjacent to the Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village. The proposals will be driven by a need to deal with a number of engineering constraints, the most significant of which are the capacity within the existing combined sewage network and River Clyde flood events.
The current situation is that a combined sewage system deals with both foul and surface water run-off for the entire masterplan area and beyond. Its capacity would be a limiting factor in allowing significant amounts of new development in the area. As a result, for any new proposals to succeed, capacity must be released within the network. This will be achieved by removing surface water run-off from the system and dealing with it above ground as a series of SUDS features within the public realm. The areas of public open space closer to the River Clyde will be designed to accommodate floodwater, and therefore act as compensatory storage.
