Sidney Stringer Academy Coventry, UK

The uplifting environment of the new Sidney Stringer Academy seeks to raise the aspirations of its students and staff, and create a sustainable school which recognises future issues around climate change.

Sheppard Robson developed a “stepping stone” proposal. This allows a scheme of a less dense footprint to emerge, and fundamentally increase in scale from a two-storey sports hall to a three-storey building stepping across the site, integrating a storey level change seamlessly within stepping stone blocks. The scheme offers the opportunity of a flexible ribbon of classroom accommodation, where curriculum zones could expand and contract in response to the Academy’s needs.
