Imperial College London, Molecular Sciences Research Hub London, UK
The challenge met by the Sheppard Robson-led team was to convert the office building into a state-of-the-art research facility. The project forms a flagship building for Imperial College London’s chemistry research activities and acts as a catalyst for a new molecular sciences neighbourhood in White City.
The ethos of the new campus is co location — bringing together researchers, entrepreneurs and industry in one place to create a critical mass of activities across science, innovation and commercialisation. Prioritising openness and flexibility, facilitating interaction and links between diverse and specialised research activities, the modular design creates a fluid research environment. The intention is to create a place where new research and teaching spaces can be easily adapted in response to emerging priorities and collaborations.
