9 George Square Glasgow, UK
Sheppard Robson were commissioned to upgrade 9 George Square in the heart of Glasgow for grade A office accommodation. The project includes an upgraded foyer and entrance sequence along with Lift lobbies, fully refurbished office floors with new services. WC accommodation has also be reconfigured and upgraded to meet current building standards.
Sheppard Robson have also developed proposals to increase the building footprint and extend upwards. This will provide 2 additional floors. Floor refurbishments have been designed to maximise flexibility for future tenants, reduce energy costs, and provide remodelled WC provision to meet BCO and Technical Standards with high quality interior design.
The design addressed the requirement for an entrance upgrade by the insertion of a striking new illuminated glazed light box, which improves accessibility / functionality and heating within the lobby space. The intervention also provides branding for the building an improved presence onto George Square. It creates a recognisable destination for visitors to the building.
James Dick, our partner in the office was the architect for the original façade retention works while at GM+AD. These works included demolition behind the retained façade and new 12 storey building behind to provide 90,000ft² of office space. These original works were completed in 1999.
