Sustainable innovation has been integrated into Sheppard Robson’s design and business processes since the practice was founded. Our dedicated sustainability group is led by partner Alan Shingler who also chairs the RIBA Sustainable Futures Group and regularly advises on sustainability best practice and emerging government policy. We review the social, economic and environmental impact of each project at key stages through the design process both in the Design Lab and using our sustainability matrix tool. We measure our carbon footprint and feed post-occupancy data back into the design process, providing measured design solutions for our clients.
In 2011 the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA) became the first higher education building and only the second building ever to receive a BREEAM Outstanding rating post-completion.
