Siemens Middle East Headquarters has set a new standard for sustainable office buildings in the Middle East and is anticipated to be one of the first buildings of its kind in the region to achieve LEED Platinum status. 2013 UAE Sustainable Project of the Year, MEED Quality Award for Projects. 2012 winner of the MIPIM AR Office Future Project Award, Sustainable Design and Commercial Project of the Year at the Middle East Architect Awards, Sustainable Building of the Year at the Big Project Middle East Awards, and Best Office at the International Property Awards Arabia.
The design began with a simple and over-arching ambition: to maximise efficiency and build more with less.
An iterative process of traditional design and parametric analysis resulted in an efficient and compact form that has reduced material and embodied carbon. Conceived as a box within a box, a highly-insulated, airtight inner facade reduces thermal conductivity while a parametrically-optimised lightweight aluminium external shading system minimises solar gain and maximises daylighting and views from the building.
The 4,500m² office floorplates achieve 90% efficiency and incorporate an innovative post tensioned flat slab with integrated void-forming technology. Rigorous energy modelling has furthermore ensured that the building performs 46% better than the baseline ASHRAE energy model.
