Siemens Middle East Headquarters Masdar City, Abu Dhabi
Siemens Middle East Headquarters has set a new standard for sustainable office buildings in the Middle East and is anticipated to be one of the first buildings of its kind in the region to achieve LEED Platinum status.
The design began with a simple and overarching ambition: to maximise efficiency and build more with less. An iterative process of traditional design and parametric analysis resulted in anefficient and compact form that has reduced material and embodied carbon.
Conceived as a box within a box, a highly insulated, airtight inner facade reduces thermal conductivity while a parametrically optimised lightweight aluminium external shading system minimises solar gain and maximises daylighting and views from the building.
The 4,500m² office floorplates achieve 90% efficiency and incorporate an innovative post tensioned flat slab with integrated void-forming technology. Rigorous energy modelling has furthermore ensured that the building performs 46% better than the baseline ASHRAE energy model.
